Prepare for Guild Wars 3

Wishlist, newsletter, and a clean split between confirmed facts and open questions.

Getting Started

Guild Wars 3 is not a game you can install today. ArenaNet announced it at Summer Game Fest 2026 as a buy-to-play MMORPG for PC and PlayStation 5, with the first beta scheduled for Fall 2027 and a full launch date still TBA. Getting started, for now, means putting yourself on the right lists, learning the setting, and refusing rumors that contradict the studio’s own words.

This page is the checklist. After it, read How to Play for the Gamescom loop, momentum combat for profession details, and Fall 2027 Beta for signup mechanics. If you already play Guild Wars 2, keep vs Guild Wars 2 nearby so you do not import the wrong expectations.

Wishlist, newsletter, and official channels

Do two storefront actions and one email action. On PC, wishlist Guild Wars 3 on Steam (app 4743930). On console, follow the PlayStation Store concept page. A collector’s edition is confirmed for launch; contents and price are not public, so treat it as a reminder to watch both stores rather than a product you can buy today. Step-by-step storefront notes live on the wishlist checklist.

Beta access is tied to the newsletter on the official Guild Wars 3 site, not to a public queue with named waves. ArenaNet’s launch posts told players to subscribe for a chance to join the Fall 2027 beta. That is the only signup path this wiki will recommend until the studio publishes another. Details, typical beta caveats, and the tracker live on Fall 2027 Beta and the beta tracker.

Keep official channels bookmarked: Discord, @PlayGuildWars3, and r/guildwars3. More destinations sit on the wiki links page. News recaps live under Updates, starting with the announcement and Gamescom 2026.

What ArenaNet has confirmed

Treat this list as the floor, not a wish list. Guild Wars 3 is buy-to-play. There is no subscription, no premium battle pass, and no pay-to-win power. Cosmetics and convenience purchases can exist; power cannot be sold. That stance is expanded on the philosophy page.

The setting is the continent of Orr, more than a thousand years before Guild Wars Reforged and the original Guild Wars, before the gods left, after Dhuum was deposed by Grenth, and before the First Guild War. You join the Vaelwardens, a guild sworn to protect land, people beyond city walls, and nature spirits. Your mount is a Seeker, a Vael spirit rather than a generic horse. Arah is the only major city named so far.

Gamescom 2026 confirmed three professions: Warrior, Necromancer, and Ranger. Combat is action RPG movement plus Guild Wars build-making, with momentum carrying between wall-run, glide, sprint, and mantle. Roles sit closer to a trinity than Guild Wars 2, with threat-based tanking. Large fights are around 20 players; cities can show more. PvP is confirmed. World vs. World is not. There are no Guild Wars 2-style meta-events and no Heroes or Henchmen. Engine: Unreal Engine 5. Input: controller and mouse and keyboard. Platforms: Steam, ArenaNet client, and PlayStation 5, with official language that those three join together from day one.

The trailer shows humans, asura, and armored bear-folk (press coverage used the word bearkin). A later Steam news post confirmed asura heading to Orr. The full playable species list is not published; do not treat a complete roster as fact. See races for what is on camera versus what is still sealed.

Hall of Monuments 2.0 will connect Guild Wars 2 accounts to Guild Wars 3. It is being built on the Guild Wars 2 side. ArenaNet says Guild Wars Reforged, Guild Wars 2, and Guild Wars 3 all stay in development. You do not need to have played the earlier games to follow this prequel, but veterans who want continuity should keep their Guild Wars 2 accounts.

Steam’s published minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2060 / Radeon RX 5700 / Intel Arc A580, 65 GB storage. DualSense on PC is listed as USB only. Full numbers and caveats: system requirements.

What is not confirmed yet

Do not plan around a launch month. Do not invent extra professions beyond Warrior, Necromancer, and Ranger. Do not assume a full race roster, a WvW map, meta-events, or Guild Wars 2 character transfers. Gear, trait lines, dungeon names, party size at launch, and underwater combat have been discussed in interviews as future topics, not as locked systems.

The Gamescom slice was early alpha. Textures, UI, and the HUD you saw in preview videos are not the shipping interface. Colin Johanson said progression, build-making, and spirits would be explained closer to the Fall 2027 beta. Until then, treat demo footage as a movement and combat pitch, not a feature checklist.

Beta wave dates, region locks, NDA rules, and whether every newsletter signup gets in are unpublished. Fall 2027 Beta tracks that gap instead of filling it with guesses.

How to spend the wait without burning out

If you are new to Tyria, you only need the Orr pitch: living wilderness, rival guilds, Vaelwardens, Seeker, Arah. You do not need Zhaitan, the Pact, or a decade of Living World to follow Guild Wars 3. Read ancient Orr and the Vaelwardens pages, then stop. Lore rabbit holes can wait for more official blogs.

If you already play Guild Wars 2, the useful prep is Hall of Monuments 2.0 awareness, not a new legendary grind aimed at Guild Wars 3. Rewards will come from Guild Wars 2 achievements over time. Keep playing the game you enjoy. vs Guild Wars 2 explains why WvW, map metas, and the old role flexibility are staying in Guild Wars 2 rather than moving over.

If you care about classes, pick a first profession from the three confirmed names and read roles. Warrior, Necromancer, and Ranger can all tank or deal damage depending on build; the studio was explicit that a Warrior shield tank and a Necromancer minion tank are different solutions to the same problem. Do not lock an identity around unannounced elites or hidden specs.

If you care about hardware, run the system requirements against your PC and decide whether PlayStation 5 is the simpler path. Platforms covers DualSense on PC, mouse and keyboard, and day-one cross-play language. Then put the game back on the wishlist and wait for the roadmap to move.
